A whole loada CHUNK.

Ok so, I'm allergic to Nickel. It's no life or death situation, it just causes a mild skin irritance if I am in contact with it for a long time, e.g reddening. Nickel is found in coins (so I use notes or cards mostly), metallic hair clips (I guess i can use plastic?), zips (so I try and make sure they don't touch my skin and apparently I can use nail polish too), belt buckles (I wear things high waist mostly so its'all good), and jewellery (I can only wear 24carat gold or non-metallics!)

Tbh, it doesn't bother me MUCH because I wasn't really always a jewellery person but I guess I'm a little rebel as I found out about this allergy a few years ago and somehow my interest for jewellery has grown #CawrBlimes! I have 5 piercings, I don't think I'll be getting anymore though :)

It is actually meant to be illegal to have Nickel in any jewellery product as Nickel in general causes irritants (more annoying when you're allergic to it!) however I'm not sure if you remember from Science but often, metals are mixed together to harden them because gold in it's natural state (more or less 24carat) is quite soft so in the production process it is likely that Nickel is mixed into the gold unfortunately! So this leads to the point of the title...

I've found a love for chunky and/or beaded jewellery, not only do they look like the 3D form of swag but they have no metal in them at all AND they're a bigger and brighter way of expressing yourself! The picture below shows the obvious style classy (slightly boring, a little bit fierce) jewellery but I wanna start wearing jewellery with no metal at all (to be on the safe side), I'm talking beads, painted wood (how dodgy does that sound!), plastic (that sounds dodgy too!) and pearls - basically everything apart from metal! I'm feeling the whole African Tribal flex so this may be ever-so convenient #ClassyChunk ;)

I'll be doing features of any finds I well.. find and keep you updated! Until then...

Lalala loveyoulongtime!

  1. I think, only cheap metal jewelry has nickel. However in many stores there are brands of cheap jewelry that specifically say "nickel free", you just have to look at the tag.
