How To Make Perfect Juice At Home & #RealJuiceTruths with Joe Wicks + Philips Viva Collection Juicer - #WellbeingWednesday

I’m so fascinated by health and by the concept that eating Kale can literally make you glow, or eating flaxseeds can top up your Iron thus make you fleeky or that eating an apple a day can totes keep the doctor away or that avocado can give you a healthy heart and much much more. All natural, wholesome and awesome.
Do you ever remember being young and trying to make juices? We’ve ALL done this, whether we’ve tried literally squeezing oranges into a cup only to be welcomed with an array of seeds and one teaspoon equivalent of juice. Or even trying to ‘blend’ apples in a standard basic b blender hoping it’ll taste like apple juice straight out of the shop. Yup, I’ve attempted making some gage worthy ‘juices’ in my time. And because you made it and you don’t want to waste it, you try to drink it but it’s literally torture haha. Anyway, no more of that haha.
Last month, Philips sent me their new juicer from the Viva Collection, alongside a large range of the freshest fruits and vegetables (oooh and a generous bag of flaxseeds). When it comes to anything technology, health, beauty, anything, I believe it is important to test it out for as long as possible in order to know the ins and outs henceforth I tested this beautiful baby for weeks. And on first impressions, I love it. I’m completely overwhelmed with how good it is. Lo and behold, THE JUICE ACTUALLY TASTES LIKE JUICE! Even better!
This post is also pretty much like a first-impressions and un-boxing post too! I wanted you all to experience every moment with me.
Coincidently today is #NationalAppleDay! Not Apple the technology company but apple as in the actual apple as in the fruit as in the thing that makes AMAZING juices. But speaking about technology, I may as well give you some quick specs! The juicer can make up to 2 liters of juice, it's a quick-clean system and the whole thing can be cleaned in less than a minute, the components open apart quite easily once you get the hang of it, thus you can get down to the nitty gritty's with a trusted sponge aka, The juicer has a handy suction on the bottom which ensures stability when making your juice! No pre-cutting is required (which is good because I ain't about dat pre-cutting lyf haha) due to the XL feeding tube.
There are A LOT of myths when it comes to Juice and Juice making thus here at Bootyfurl with the help of Philips and Joe wicks aka The Body coach *exhale* - we are here to demystify them all! I love how Joe is real with his facts, no bull! No beet just root. Haha get it? No...? Awks!
Top 5 myths about juicing:
Top 5 myths about juicing:
Myth 1 - 'Juice has too much sugar'
Store-bought juices may have added sugars but using a juicer ensures that you know exactly what's going inside your juice - just fruit!

Myth 2 - 'Juicers are expensive'
I've always wanted a juicer! I remember watching tele-shopping channels when I was younger and seeing really (then) hi-tech juicers and thinking I need one en mi vida. Times have changed now however, juicers are not as expensive as they used to be - thank God! You can even get a Philips Viva Collection Compact juicer for £40. Calculate how much you may have spent on juice in the past month, whether it be grocery spends and/or restaurants and or lunch drinks and you'll soon realise it may be worth investing in a juicer! Plus the Viva Collection juicer I reviewed can make up to two liters of juice so you can totally take it with you to university or school! As for the fruit itself, you can go to local grocers for the same quality fruit but at a cheaper rate!
Myth 3 - 'Juicing is good for a quick fix weight loss'
I disagree with 'quick fixes' - this is a #WellbeingWednesday and I'm looking at juicing as a way of making you feel good, think of all the yummy nutrients! I'm not looking at it as a fad diet, we've all heard of these 'lose-weight-fast' strategies, let's not buy into that! When you prioritise wellbeing over weight, you'll realise that you will want to do things for yourself, aka feel good and look after yourself by consuming fruit and veg. Quick fixes and crash diets are pointless and totally unsustainable - plus they probably make you feel unhappy. It’s all about real food, real nutrients and plenty of good fuel for the body. Remember, wellbeing and lifestyle go hand and hand!

Myth 4 - 'Blending is better for you than juicing'
Supposedly Juicing isn't good as it 'takes away all the nutrients' - this is totally a myth. I've heard this myth many times in passing! Juicing and blending both benefit the body in different ways according to Joe Wicks. Juicing makes it easier for you to consume more fruits and vegetables! The UK Department of Health recognises that juice counts towards the recommended five-a-day. That’s because juice retains all of the nutritional value of whole fruit or vegetables, with the exception of fibre. You can increase juice quality by using cold produce and juicing is a great way to add essential vitamins and minerals to your diet, so juice consistently and drink it fresh. It's an amazing way to start getting more variety in and it may encourage you to try lots more new things!
Myth 5 - 'Vegetable juice tastes horrible'
Hahaha Just as Nike say 'Just Do It', when it comes to anything HEALTHY I say "Just Drink It" #yaaasssss :P

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice blog about selfmade juices!
ReplyDeleteI'm really new in making juices by myself. So I bought a compact and cheap entry level juicer, which is perfect for beginners: www.vitality4life.co.uk/biochef-axis-compact-juicer/
This juicer also has a wide feed chute (4,5cm diameter) and a special easy lock release for a quick and easy cleaning.
